Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how DupScan("the App"), developed by Marcel Iseli ("we", "us", or "our"), handles your information. By using DupScan, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Data Collection

DupScan does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. The App operates entirely on your device and makes no network connections of any kind. There are no analytics frameworks, crash reporters, tracking pixels, or telemetry integrated into the App.

DupScan does not require an account, registration, email address, or any form of sign-in to use the App.

File Access

DupScan requires access to files and folders on your Mac in order to scan for duplicate files and large files. This access is granted by you through standard macOS permission dialogs. The App uses macOS security-scoped bookmarks to remember folder access permissions across launches. These bookmarks are stored locally on your device and are never transmitted.

DupScan reads file metadata (name, size, path, date) and file contents (for SHA256 hash computation) during scanning. This data is processed entirely in memory on your device and is not stored persistently except for scan results displayed in the App interface and deletion history records.

Deletion History

When you delete files through DupScan, the App records the filename, original file path, file size, and deletion date in a local history log. This data is stored on your device only and is used to enable the file restore feature. This data is never transmitted off your device.

Third-Party Services

DupScan does not integrate with or transmit data to any third-party services. The App contains no third-party SDKs, advertising frameworks, or external dependencies that collect user data.

DupScanis distributed through the Mac App Store. Your purchase and download are handled by Apple and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

In-App Purchases

DupScan offers an optional Pro upgrade as a one-time in-app purchase. This transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive, store, or have access to any payment information, billing details, or Apple ID data.

App Sandbox

DupScanruns within the macOS App Sandbox, which restricts the App's access to system resources according to Apple's security guidelines. The App can only access files and folders that you have explicitly granted permission to.

Children's Privacy

DupScandoes not collect personal data from any user, including children under 13. Since no data is collected, no special provisions for children's data are necessary.

Website

The DupScan website (dupscan.app) uses Vercel Analytics for anonymous, aggregate page view statistics. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track users across websites. No other third-party tracking scripts are loaded on the website.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
